Ordered Chaos
March 2022
Stoneleigh, Sherman Hill, Des Moines, Iowa, USA
Acrylic on canvas with palette knife
Available
After moving to the Stoneleigh, 108 year old apartment building in Sherman Hill, a national historic district and the first neighborhood colonized in Des Moines, Iowa, USA on native land of the Ioway Tribe, I struggled to sleep. Ukraine and human collective weighed heavily on my mind, and a light from the back stairwell shinned through a stained-glass window in my bedroom. One night, I went to my easel and began drawing geometric figures until my mind eased and I was able to rest for the night. I turned to my easel night after night drawing these figures. One evening, I shared my love for abstract painting with a friend and invited them to add to the canvas, as they could do no wrong. After being hesitant, they were able to let go of intention to paint. Amid this timeline, I decided to throw a fundraiser for Ukraine with the help of a friend who runs a non-profit and local artists in Des Moines, Iowa. This piece was finished for Ukraine Fundraiser on March 19, 2022 and shown again at Earth Verse on April 22, 2022, at Yoga & Co. in Des Moines, Iowa, USA.

Flowed to Morgan Saint, IDER, Votiv, Sylvan Esso, and Minke to create this piece for the Ukraine Fundraiser. The darkness of imperialism, capitalism, and the patriarchy has it's head in the clouds, disconnected from Gaia. Yet, the light is grounded, balanced, rooted, connected, and strong.

Sisterhood

This flow shows my rhythm when facing the rawness of violence against women that is pervasive on Gaia. My hope is to empower women to embrace that we are in this together and can heal collectively, as sisterhood and the sisterhood wound, created and perpetuated by the patriarchy, runs deeper than our familiar ties and exterior colors.
